DUBAI - My week away!

After promising to visit my best friend after she moved to Dubai was over 3 years ago. I assumed it would be too hot, too far, not really for me. But... after seeing other friends visit, I really wanted to see the sights for myself and spend some quality time with my friend.

I booked my flight in May and flew in November and I was surprised the flight cost so little £380.. just means more pennies to spend when I get there.

I flew from Manchester to Dubai on a Sunday morning with Emirates and after a 7 hour flight it was 10pm when I landed. Greeted at the airport by my friend I was feeling the heat when I reached the doors to leave the airport.

My friend's lovely boyfriend took me for a trip around the sights so I could see the City at night, I couldn't believe my eyes. Dubai is full of beautiful buildings covered in pretty lights, how could anyone ever get sick of this. I had a happy moment as we passed The Dubai Mall! We would be back first thing in the morning for a look around!

Staying in central downtown my friend lives in a super location surrounded by all the coffee shops and food outlets you could wish for. My friend quickly introduced me to the yummy Tim Hortons. Light Cream cheese bagel and Iced coffee became our daily breakfast :-)

On the first day we arrived at The Dubai Mall excited to see all the amazing names of shops we maybe don't get on the UK high street. Surprisingly we didn't buy that much, we were too busy trying to get round them and see what was there. But we did have an amazing lunch at 'The Shakespeare' for a light salad and yummy fresh juice. The Mall is also the home for two other amazing tourist attractions. The Fountains and... The Tallest Building in the World - the Burj Khalifa

The next day we headed to The Atlantis, it was a less than 15 minute taxi journey from where I was staying. It was beautiful, we decided to head to the water park so we could go on some of the water slides and also use the beach. We had a lovely time, we took rubber rings around the lazy river and rapids. We also chilled on the beach and had a fresh coconut as a refreshment. We were a little exhausted after all that sun, but it was Tuesday and it would be rude not to attend Ladies Night, and we decided to head to Buddha Bar at the Grosvenor Hotel near the Marina.

We had booked a couple of weeks ahead to go to he Burj Al Arab for afternoon tea in the SkyView Bar. 6 Courses of beautifully presented food - small portions of course, with a choice of champagne cocktail. I really recommend booking to go for afternoon tea but it is expensive but it 100% worth it for the amazing views of Dubai.

It was time to head to the beach again, so on Thursday we headed to Jumeriah Beach Park, it was a lovely beach with views of where we were the previous day not far into the distance. The beach sits behind a very green and extremely spotless park area where you really could sit and relax. We followed up our beach trip with a trip back to the Mall for Cheesecake Factory. See my previous post for more detail on the food we had.

It was my last day, we decided to chill out and head late afternoon to a souk called Madinat. Filled with local products such as stuffed dates and strong perfumes. There was also some lovely places to eat. We ate at a noodle bar which really was yummy.
